trouble installing ubuntu from usb drive

I used UUI to create a 12.04 live usb. I can get the ubuntu boot menu to come up on my Acer AO751h, but when I try to install, it goes through its initialization until I get this error:

Starting load fallback graphic devices [fail]

and then it just hangs there forever.

I tried again using unetbootin to create the live usb, but got the same result.

I've had ubuntu working on this netbook before, but currently it only has Windows 7.

Any ideas?
