Why do certain websites auto-play annoying video ads w/ audio?
I've worked at a few production house type web design places that would just love to talk people into adding audio ads to their websites and some of them ate it up. I'm pretty sure that the average person gets fucking irritated as shit when you go to a website and out of nowhere, unexpected audio starts playing.
I'm wondering if there is any type of market research that shows this is actually profitable advertising. My personal experience on the side of seeing how it was sold was with small business, but I see it on much larger websites that I frequent, such as these -
Who in their right mind wouldn't find this annoying as shit? Surely they aren't making more money from people clicking on it to mute it than they would get if it wasn't there in the first place.
