Cigar Ratings

I'm fairly new to cigars. I've stuck mostly to Rocky Patels and other similarly priced sticks that were recommended from Holts where I pretty much exclusively purchase from. I just came across this reddit, read the FAQ and have been perusing the great links within. Ones question I have is the ratings listed on some of the sites for cigars. I wanted some more information on these ratings. What does the number mean, what is the "max" rating, who rates them, etc. I feel dumb for asking but figured this would be the best place to go.
