Copper, Brass, Wood Material Treatments?

I'm working on making a steampunk clock for course I'm taking this semester. I think I've got a good idea of what all I'm going to do, but I'm a little new to some of these materials.

Three general questions:

  1. What methods should I use to 'age' my copper and brass parts? Nothing too major, but I notice that most steampunk devices seem to have a bit of age on them.

  2. I'm going to build a wood box for the internal workings. What sort of wood, stain, sealant, finishing produce the best 'steampunk' look for wood?

  3. Where are some good places to pick up parts/salvage to use on steampunk projects? Pipes, gears, bells, other copper and brass, etc...
