Looking to buy 3-4 monitors but have never done so before. Can someone confirm my assumptions?

Hi there, I currently put together a new rig and I am thinking about investing in 3 monitors, maybe 4 if I can get a good deal.

The graphics card I have is MSI Radeon HD 7970 3GB

The ports that it contains is 1xDVI, 1xHDMI, 2xMiniDP. I assume that I can use all 4 together at the same time, but I have never dealt with a MiniDP port let alone owned a monitor that has ports for it. Do they work just like any other connection except are smaller?

I also was wondering if anyone has a suggestion as to where to buy the monitors from. I of course would like them all to be the exact same, but that means they will all have to have both DVI,HDMI, and MiniDP ports which kinda limits my choices. Are there any websites that offer monitors in bulk for discount? Are there any brands you can recommend? Especially ones that have very small border margins as I find it a bit distracting.
