Military vs Walkers

Realistically speaking (I know, zombie fantasy show), do you guys think that the military, if faced with a real zombie apocalypse would be defeated.

Also, let's say you had a small group of soldiers holding down Hershel's farm do you think they would be successful at defeating the large walker herd? They would be equipped with about a dozen rounds of ammo, maybe some explosives, etc.
