The US political aristocracy...
US politics is strange for many reasons, esp for people outside the US. Even stranger is the form of political nobility built up in place of a formal aristocracy.
To compensate for not having a nobility with upper class titles, the US has created it's own version of the nobility, the Political Aristocracy. When you get elected to a public position, you inherit the title for life. Even if you left the Senate 30 years ago, you are still called Senator, same for every other position and this gave me the idea that this is actually an aristocracy with strict rules and titles used among the members and those who worship them and those who have to serve them.
I've tried to set up a list with the equivalent nobility titles for the various US titles below. I am sure there may be other ideas or additions.
President - King
Vice President - Crown Prince
The Cabinet - Dukes - Duchesses
The Supreme Court Justices - Counts and Countesses
Senators - Lords and Ladies
Congressional Reps - Knights
What sayeth ye?
