Anyone made the move from LI to NYC?

I've got a house out on LI with small kids, but we're thinking long and hard about moving into the city in a year or so once we get past the "jump around and be crazy" age.

Anyone made a similar move? thoughts?

We're not from NY, in fact only been up here for about 2 years.
