Players taking gloves off after periods?

I was watching Boston vs. LA tonight and after the end of the first period they were showing a camera in the bruins tunnel. All the players (including Thomas) were handing their gloves to what appeared to be equipment managers. Are they drying them off or something? Just curious on why the players would be doing this.
