Something to think about (in light of the possible TA strike..)
Every year, a list of Ontario public servants that make over $100,000/year comes out. York's list is here
The Star had a story about the highest-earning people in different categories.. guess who topped the colleges and universities list?
Top dogs at Toronto’s universities and colleges
Mamdouh Shoukri: $479,262.32: President and vice chancellor, York University.
John Davies: $427,915.56: President, Humber College
David Agnew: $395,360.03: President, Seneca College
Sara Diamond: $386,250.10: President, Ontario College of Art and Design University
David Naylor: $384,250.50: President, University of Toronto
Sheldon Levy: $365,000.04: President, Ryerson University
Anne Sado: $353,132.47: President, George Brown College
Ron Bordessa: $340,476.00: President, University of Ontario Institute of Technology
Ann Buller: $319,041.74: President, Centennial College
Not saying that TAs deserve anywhere near this kind of salary. But the disparity is interesting, in light of the possible strike (and the usual employer claims that "we just don't have the money").
Also, on the highest-paid lawyers list:
Top-level counsels
David Brennan: $548,900.04: Senior vice-president, law & general counsel, Ontario Power Generation
R. Paul Edmonds: $378,173.78: Senior vice-president corporate affairs and general counsel, Ontario Pension Board
Monica Kowal: $298,587.67: General counsel, Ontario Securities Commission
Joseph Agostino: $292,798.36: General counsel, Hydro One
MaryLee Farrugia: $290,433.14: Executive vice-president, general counsel and corporate secretary, Ontario Infrastructure & Lands Corp.
Walter Fioravanti: $278,012.13: Senior vice-president legal regulatory compliance general counsel corporate secretary, Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corp.
Steven Moate: $265,445.46: Senior legal counsel to the president, University of Toronto
Harriet Lewis: $247,786.77: University secretary and general counsel, York University
Robin Kind: $203,654.88: Corporate general counsel, Ontario Clean Water Agency
Obviously, tuition pays the president's salary (I'm sure he works very hard to keep the school running, nothing wrong with that). But I didn't think his salary would be THAT high.
