My experience with Sleep Paralysis.
I'd once had a semi lucid nightmare once, it wasn't pleasant at all but it led me to discovering about lucid dreaming. While I haven't been able to throw myself into a state of lucid dreaming, I did happen upon sleep paralysis. I think this knowledge prepared me somewhat for my experience with sleep paralysis.
I awoke somewhat quickly in the middle of the night and discovered that I could not move at all, still somewhat slow from my sleep state I didn't even panic at all, which seems what a lot of people do in this kind of situation. I was sort of like, "Oh, so this is sleep paralysis, well this is interesting...". I assessed what bits of my body that still worked, my arms and legs felt like lead and breathing was kind of shallow, but not enough to make me panic yet. I had the feeling that I might be able to move my toe, so I concentrated only on my big toe and willed it to move, somewhat like a car accident victim that's been told they'll never walk again. My toe started to move ever so slightly and after some intense concentration I managed to get the rest of my toes, then my foot and then my leg twitching away! I soon regained function of the rest of my body, though I still felt rather heavy for a while longer but I was able to move.
I think the thing that surprised me the most about this experience is that I never panicked once during this entire ordeal. I guess I had greater willpower than I thought. Thanks for listening Reddit, you're a wonderful place full of sub-reddits I never would have thought of existing.
