Shift workers of reddit: how do you deal with the impact of night shifts/12-hour shifts on your mind and body?

I'm starting out a new career in a field that involves doing 12-hour shifts for two days and then two nights.

I'm feeling irritable, depressed, anxious, exhausted and cranky. After doing the two night shifts, I spend 1.5 days feeling like a zombie. I look tired all the time.

I know people who do shift work are more likely to get heart disease and certain cancers. It's no wonder: I already feel like shit and I've been doing it for three months.

Any shift workers out there have some good tips on feeling healthier physically and mentally while working these stupid goddamn hours?
