Roguelikers (aka masochists) of experience, recommend me a new roguelike pretty please. Details inside

My roguelike history is Nethack and then DCSS. Nethack I adored for the intricacy and hated for the intricacy :P I never did very well and when the community started doing the DCSS challenges I got into it.

I really enjoyed DCSS (I haven't had much success though, most I got was 1 rune) but lately with uni and interpersonal relationship (XD) commitments I have fallen out of the fold.

I'm looking for something with a bit more of a world to explore, bonus points if it has legit mythology in it. I really enjoyed ---that ASCII space game that I can't remember right now... It had jumpgates n shit and you could shoot and melee people as well as trade etc.--- for the world aspect, flying around running barrackades and doing piracy etc was very entertaining.

So ye veterans of pain. Any suggestion?
