Is it weird or dangerous to travel alone?

I really want to go on vacation this summer. Possibly Europe or even the States (I'm from Canada). However, none of my friends want to go (they're too stingy). Would it be dangerous? SAP?

Also, if you do recommend me to go, should I take a tour? Or just go backpacking around? I just want to have some fun this summer away from home and all the stress of university.

Also, does anyone know where I can find someone that might want to go with me? (Like a website or club, something along those lines). Simply put, where can I find friends that like to travel?
