r/Japan, tell me how you ended up in Japan and why (for short or long-term stays). Or, alternatively, if you're Japan bound, tell me about your future plans!

This has probably been asked on here a gazillion times before in some form or another but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask again. And if it could, please be gentle, I bruise easily.

The more details the better! I'm trying to figure out the manner in which I'd like to experience Japan (i.e. vacation, JET, volunteering, etc.) but I'm also just really interested in hearing about others' experiences.
