Are the controls in Warband different from Vanilla, or am I just out of practice?

I played a great deal of vanilla Mount&Blade ages ago, but haven't played in a while. Decided to give Warband a go now because I saw Native Expansion was out, but I fail miserably in every fight. I just can't hit people with my lance, I even have issues with regular weapons.

Have they changed something, or am I just out of practice? I've tried all the different options, even automatic, but I just can't make the weapons go where I want them to like I used to.
