/r/mensrights, we need to have a talk.

Recently I saw an image circulated on Facebook, which can be seen here.

The image in question is entitled "A man that hits a woman is not a man." While I completely agree with this sentiment, and I am wholeheartedly against abuse of any kind, I can't help but to wonder how many "likes" this image would have garnered if the sexes were reversed: "A woman who hits a man is not a woman."

While I'm sure this post is well-intentioned, it only servers to further gender stereotypes that we need to completely abandon if we are to see full gender equality. For women especially. The message here should not be "hitting a woman is wrong", it should be "hitting is wrong."

I've heard the feminist/white knight side of the argument before, but it's never sat quite right with me. What are your thoughts on the matter?
