Would any of you consider buying a new M235i gran coupe if the price was $43k?

Buying Help

I know this is a sham BMW and it doesn't drive like a BMW etc. etc. I have poured over all the reviews and videos. I also see that people keep saying it's not worth the price of 50k'ish. I have a chance to get it for $43k including taxes etc. I can't list all the options off hand, but it's definitely not barebones.

With the used market so crazy I kind of want to take advantage and sell my current car. And If I can get into this new BMW for well under MSRP, then I figure I win both ways.

And I'm not in a position to buy a new M340i, and I can't have a small coupe for practicality reasons.

EDIT: Here is the included options - Additional to the Standard Equipment this offer includes Special Equipment and Packages: + Metallic Color + 18" M Y-Spoke forged Wheels + M Sport Seats + Leather Upholstery + Panoramic Moonroof + Premium Package + Heated Front Seats + Heated Steering Wheel + Head-Up Display + Live Cockpit Pro (incl. Navi) + Shadowline Package + Mirror Caps in Black + Extended Shadowline Trim + M Performance Package + Remote engine Start Included Equipment: M Sport Brakes with Blue Calipers, 8-Speed Sport Automatic Transmission, M Sport Steering, M Sport Suspension, M Steering Wheel, Rear Spoiler, Rear View Camera, Park Distance Control, LED Headlights, Lane Departure Warning, etc.

I'm not somewhere that has good used options for me. If I was in the US mainland maybe I could. I also can't have a small coupe for practical reasons.

I personally wouldn’t buy an new M235i GC unless it was sub $30k. Way too many better options in the secondhand market. Just think it’s one of the worst BMWs made in a long time

Not in my second hand market. Dealers are selling cars exactly like mine with more mileage for $30k. I paid 32k for it new during a sale. It's a sellers market for used cars.

Check out my historical posts, defending the M Performance models.

The M235i GC, after going to an Ultimate Driving Event and taking one for a spin...

I would not buy. I was trying to give it the benefit of the doubt, hoping it would impress me.

But don't listen to people telling you to buy a 2014 M5 in 2021. That is bad advice, too - if you're stretching for a new M235i.

I mean. If you're getting it, you're getting it for the luxury, not the performance - and that is a reasonable trade off. You'll get all the BMW bells and whistles as far as interior trim and features. But not the performance.

Honestly - at this kind of money, if you want BOTH... look at a much newer Kia Stinger GT 2.

Great info, thanks.

NP. Seriously, check out a loaded Stinger GT 2 before you pull the trigger - it is NICE inside... in a lot of aspects it is as nice as my F83, it is wicked quick, and its maintenance will probably be on par, maybe a little cheaper, than the M235i GC. It is a serious performance car with a great luxury interior.

If I were shopping for a car in the 40-60k range - it would be high on my list.... maybe highest.

To be honest I think you can get a better car for that money.

Don't do it.

Get a better model BMW second hand, you will get a waaay better car.

Edit,. At a quick search you could get a 2014 M5 for 35k

Would muuuuuch rather that

2014 428i luxury model for 28k

Both way better cars.

Well my thinking is that the 2nd hand market sucks right now. So I'd get less value buying used. I want to sell my used car for an inflated price and buy a new car that doesn't have an inflated price.

I'm also not somewhere that has a good pool of 2nd hand options. Not cont. US.

I think you'll find youll shoot yourself in the foot with that kind of thinking, once the market settles youll end up with a car thats probably worth less than what you have now.

If you wanna benefit from the current second hand market.. all you can do is sell now, then wait 12 months to buy. Otherwise you will lose value on the car you buy ,..rapidly. then you'll be stuck with worthless junk

What car do you have atm?

I don't understand your reasoning. Are you saying that the M235i will lose value rapidly, even when buying it well under MSRP?

I have an F30 right now.

Seems like you know what you want to do regardless, so just go do it 👌

this doesn't make a whole lot of sense, if he can buy a new car for less than MSRP he would not end up with a car that's worth less than what he has now. The issue today is that used car prices are ridiculous and are sometimes even above the price of new. Getting a new car today is quite hard depending on the make and model so getting a new car today while selling a used car for an inflated price would make sense. I did this a few months ago and am benefiting from this, as for the M235i it's not my cup of tea but I have the 228i which it's based off of and I love the car so while it's not something you may like don't bash someone who does.

The second hand value of the car he buys will severely plummet in the next 24 months.
