The right person for teaching?

QUESTION

Hi all - 45 years of age, former Army and working with veteran well-being currently. I am thinking of doing a Master of Teaching for Secondary. I did a BSc majoring in Psych before joining the ADF then finished a MA in Indonesian Studies while serving.

I am a languages and science nerd and I would love to talk about those subjects all day. I have limited experience with kids apart from my own and running a Scouts troop (the kids mostly follow my instructions).

My wife is a primary teacher and I know how behaviour management is vital, is it something that can be learnt? I don’t want to play a hard case, and I doubt I could fake it! Also, too much noise and chaos just wears me down, little kids are a nightmare, I work ok with my Scouts troop kids that are 11-14 years old.

Any suggestions for getting experience in the classroom before committing to study? Living in Darwin.

Given my age and the money and 4 years of study involved, it’d be good to know if I’m an idiot to even consider it. Any advice?
