Note 20 dual sim/physical sim question.

Question

So I finally got around to trying to use 2 sims on my Tmobile Note 20. I have one line on e-sim and the other is a physical sim card. When I had this setup with a Pixel phone I was able to indicate which line to use for calls and texts and which one for data. On the Note 20 I do not see this option available. Does anybody know if I can use one line for calls and texts and the other for data only and how to set it up? Or is this feature not available on the Note 20. Right now it only lets me switch the primary line from one to the other but doesn't let me choose if I want texts and calls on one and data on the other. Thanks.

For calls, on the keypad once you've started typing a number, you'll get a button at the bottom to pick the line. You can also assign a line in contacts.

For texts, I have been using Android Messages and have a little button I can tap to pick which line. I vaguely remember Samsung's texting app having a similar option, but don't recall specifically where it is.

For data, it's always going to be whichever is the primary line from the sim manager.

Yw.

I will say, Android Messages still has a bit of a glitch. MMS will only send via the primary data line right now. Might have to do with RCS.

Samsung's app appeared to have no issues with that.

But I know TMo wants to move to Android Messages as the default app, but that issue has to be resolved before it can really be a viable option for many people.

Lol, especially those of use that have a free line with One Plus as the second SIM. 😂🤣

Install the Samsung Band Selection app from the Play store. It will let you do it.

Thanks I will try this out.

So I tried this and it looks like the app is only for changing band selections. I do not see an option where I can set up one line for calls and texts and then designate the other line for data.

If you click the more network settings option it should bring up your 2 lines. Click on one of them and you should see a calls preference and a sms preference option.

Just set the line you want for data as the primary in the sim card manager, and then use this app set the preferred line for calls and texts.

Ok, thanks. I got a little confused because when I brought up the more network options it doesn't show the phone numbers for the lines so I thought it was the same one. It only say T-Mobile-US and then the other says T-Mobile. But I think I got it figured out on which line is which.

Samsung doesn't give you the option to designate which line is phone or data.

Whichever line is sat as the primary line is the one that has data.

Thanks. Kinda sucks that they don't do this.

Both your SIMs are active for voice calls and messages, so just assign the primary SIM to whatever you want to use as primary data, and set the SIM2 for outbound calls.

Inbound calls work just fine on both SIMs.
