Not sure if Valeri would take up an international spot, but I think Charlotte has burned most of their international availability. So it will be a high risk move if they pick up Valeri given his salary and age.

We all love Diego, but protecting him would not be smart. If rumors are to be believed he's either retiring or heading back to Lanus. I don't think he'd be interested in playing for another MLS team and based on his play this season I'm not sure Charlotte would want him. He's a big name to people who know the league, but he's not a big enough name to draw in non-soccer people.
If they do pick him Charlotte instantly becomes Portland's second most hated team.

I would. If someone wants to help him continue playing, I'm on board for it, whether it's Charlotte or Forge FC. Diego is a legend who won't get minutes with us next year. Letting him go somewhere else is respectful, imo. We'll (the army) recognize him no matter where and when he retires.

That’s true. I just selfishly want him to retire with us. Regardless he only has a year or so left.

I think he will “retire” with us. Same way RodWal did. Portland means a lot to Diego. He means a lot to us.

As much as I love him it’s what we had to do. Protect the young core. There’s no way he gets drafted, as he’ll likely retire either way
