How much do you hate yourself.

I was literally asked this when I applied for a job at PDX in hospitality management a few years ago. Considering I’ve been hospitality management and consulting for over 20 years now, it made me laugh and was like now we’re talking. Let’s be real.

It’s the anniversary of me getting fired for looking for another job.

Went from manager to learning and development management. Writing employee manuals, sorting out all the ass backwards dumb shit. Fine. It’s what I do and am quite good at. Really not much more effort on my part.

They lowballed me so hard for my raise. Offensively low balled it.

I then applied for a job at a hotel that was trying to establish a boutique bar from the ground up. Went through 3 interviews and finally had my final with the GM of the hotel. All seems great. Didn’t tell a soul about it so as not to jinx it. I never heard back from the GM even after following up twice.

WALK INTO WORK A WEEK LATER and was fired. Their excuses were weak af and confusing to be honest. Was told that I had been overheard in a bar talking shit about the company. Lol I rejected this and didn’t sign anything they wanted me to and was crushed for a few months because I had no idea how this happened.

TURNS OUT. The fucking hotel GM was good friends with the owners of the airport company I worked for and shared everything I said.

So I lost both jobs and turns out i actually do hate myself for having any faith in this god awful industry.

Everything fell apart at this point and had to make some serious life changes but here I am slinging drinks in a music venue making 55k. Mostly unsupervised. Watching it all slowly burn.

Bless all y’all in it this shit show that is supposed to be hospitality.

I KNOW! it took me forever to get my head around it. I wouldn’t have known save some other managers got wind of it.

Where I live that is illegal, and even if it wasn't, I'd slash their fucking tires.

The internal mental struggle of having this actually transpire has been haunting. Luckily I work for(with) some pretty rad people now. Fuck all that noise though. It’s raunchy out there.

This is another example of 'Never trust anyone you work with - especially anything personal.'
