Is it ok to have a beard for a job interview?

I know this question is a bit weird, but I've had a short beard (more or less like this: http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2007/database/keanureeves/keanureeves300.jpg ) since I was 18 and I feel quite weird without it.

I will have some interviews for an EE job in a couple of weeks and everyone is telling me that I should shave it. Is it that bad if I keep it?

Also, I would appreciate any tips for the resumé or the interview!
