A girl like an Alyssum flower
I wandered in a garden full of marigold
It reminded me of a time that has flown
When romantic poetry was for the old
And for the people who were left alone.
I saw a sage like Alyssum flower
Hiding in beauty among others,
It resembled a girl I met in an October
When leaves fall like feathers.
These flowers that are not cherished
Wither and die like the autumn leaves
Which are colored in a lonely dismay
Waiting to turn callous and grey.
My wish to watch the crooked rain
Again with her by my side felt a fantasy.
And when droplets slid down this shade
I saw her again in all her beauty.
She entered this shade by the flowers
And the birds sang the tale of her beauty
In a nostalgic & melancholic symphony
Which pierced the lines in my poetry.
She was a woman who I knew once
Her smile could even make a rose shy
A smile that made me fall in love
A love which was new but now is old.
The rain falling on this shade felt serene
But her nostalgic smile like the flowers
Seemed more calmer than the rain
Which fatefully made us meet again.
Greetings were exchanged, like the day
We met in this garden seasons ago,
Now she smiles with a few wrinkles
And my words still stumble to flow.
I saw her kids stroll along the garden
A bittersweet sight for a rainy day
A wry smile appeared on the curtain
Of my heart that reflected on my face.
She bid farewell as the rain subsided
Her kids walked under an umbrella
Which a long time ago, I had gifted,
And I was left longing for the rain again.
I sighed as a snowy winter had arrived
The chilly winds entered this shade
Bringing forth emotions this December
That put an end to the reminiscence of her.
A beautiful reminiscence that once
Was present in my heart for a lifetime
Now is left aside while I wander again
Without a purpose, writing down
Poetry that does not have her in it,
And a mystery that eludes me
Seeps into my mind as I look down
To the snow swept streets
Realizing, that life in its misery
Just goes on.
// I have been working on this poetry piece for a long time. Its really close to my heart. It stumbles yet defines what I am going through these winters or went through this fall. Its been an enlightening yet sorrowful year, a lonely yet crowded year. A cold yet warm embrace from people. I have become lonely but have found goodness in being alone. Pls comment down your insights about the poem. Would mean a lot.
