I'm having trouble figuring out if my friend's kink is a kink or something more

I had been friends with a guy I met online a month & a half ago & first off, I want to say that it has been amazing. We both went through sexual violence as a child & had sexual desires as well. We chatted, sexted, & shared our feelings. I was a bit nervous when we first started sexting but I have gotten comfortable with it as time goes on.

He told me that his biggest desire is rape kink. I didn't know that's a thing until I looked it up. He said he always thought about taking advantage of someone & making them cum for him without their consent. He also watches rape porn & sometimes send me pics or videos of women in distress. He also told me in detail what he wants to do with any hot girl he saw at his school where he works.

Of course, he reassures me time & time again that it's just a kink & wouldn't do it in real life. The one thing he said that struck me the most is although he may find a woman attractive & wanted to fuck her, he wouldn't go farther because he controls his actions & understand that consent matters. After I confessed to him about my childhood rape, he wanted to make sure I'm safe & not hurt in any way.

I do feel secure but now, I feel a bit uneasy as he told me if I could let him rape someone and/or his aunt (who was his perpetrator & still is today & the one responsible for his unhealthy desires). I told myself it's just a kink & he reassured me but I don't know if he's roleplaying or having different intentions.

So my question is how do I know if this is roleplaying or a precursor to something that'll get him into trouble?
