New to smartsheets - is there really no proper validation?

Hi all. Seriously confused to be presented with a data type that was both text and number…with no validation options. This can’t be right can it? Any advice? My org has adopted SS through the back door and without and due process. It looks like it’s going to stick so I need to know what’s in store and tbh this doesn’t bode well. 5 mins in and I find validation isn’t robust?
