Help with KCAN

So my friend recently gave me a Cable he bought but didnt work so I'm trying to make it work with no success I've tried fresh installs of windows multiple computers and neither of the cars want to pick it up E39 528i 97 or a E46 330 Its a no switch cable and I didn't get the CD as he lost it I don't need the pins bridged as I wont need that but no car seems to connect.
