How easily could I get herpes?

I recently met someone on Tinder who has HSV 1 and 2. He is not medicated. We're both looking for something serious so he's asked me to do some research before we get too far into anything, which is reasonable. From the research I've done, I don't feel super concerned. I'd obviously need to set up some boundaries to help limit my exposure. Ultimately, my question is how likely it would be for me to get HSV 1 or 2 if we were to have unprotected sex if there is no active flare up, no healing sores, etc. I've done almost an hour of reading and can't find an actual answer, other than that it is possible to spread it if there's no flare up. (This question is definitely for MUCH later down the line, for things related to having children, because I read that it's easy for an infected woman to pass the virus to the children).
