Has anyone experienced having their top surgery (or any trans-related surgery) cancelled because they caught COVID-19? How long did it take to reschedule?

Hey everyone, I hope your week is going well y'all are staying safe as cases start to climb rapidly in Ontario.

I have top surgery scheduled for January 2022, and I'm over the past few days I've started to experience an extreme amount of anxiety/distress over the possibility that my surgery will get cancelled because I will catch COVID-19. Many doctors seem to be saying now with the Omicron variant, it's not a matter of if you'll get COVID-19, but when.

I live in a shared household with two roommates who are currently working as servers, so it feels like it is inevitable that I'm going to get the virus with the highly transmissible nature of the Omicron variant. I'm planning to start self-isolation three weeks before my surgery date. Fomite transmission tends to be 10000x less likely to occur than droplet/airborne transmission, so I'm going to try and focus on keeping my room ventilated, wearing my KN95 in shared spaces and asking my roommates to wear theirs too if we are in the same shared space. Fortunately, my roommates are super supportive of doing what they can to make sure I can make it to top surgery. But there is only so much they can do.

I've been waiting so long for this surgery, it will break me if I have to reschedule it because of COVID-19. But I have to realistic about this possibility, so I want to ask if anyone has had experience with their surgery having to be cancelled because of COVID-19? How did you cope? How much later was the rescheduled date?

Anything you're open to sharing is much appreciated. Thanks.
