My biggest problems with SB (Spoilers)

SpoilerDiscussion

So I've been playing SB since it came out. I haven't finished it, and I can't play it anymore. The patch that came out is too big, and since it isn't finished downloading, I can't start the game up.

I have heard and seen a lot from people about this game, and while I can't agree with everything people say, I do have my issues with the game.

I won't be talking about the glitches or bugs. Those are obv problems, but they're going to be patched out, and while we can criticize them for being there in the first place, I don't think it's fair to continue to rag on Steel Wool for them.

The problem I have is that the game is totally different from what we expected, and not in a good way. Just look back at trailer one, and then at the game. Lots of that stuff isn't in there. Vanessa doesn't try to help you, there's no one screaming "YOU WILL DO AS I SAY!". Vanny's voice is completely different as well. It's more robotic and deep rather than the soft voice with an occasional robotic twang to it. It's not a choice I like, but if you like it, that's fine.

And speaking of Vanny... ooooh boy, she got the short end of the stick, even worse than Baby. At least Sister Location was ABOUT Baby! We got an entire game about the return of Afton, and then both DLC and a game about Vanny being under his influence.. and yet she rarely shows up. It's clear from the endings that she was supposed to be more important than she actually ended up being.

An easy way to have her make more of an impact.. have her show up more, randomly. If you stand out in the open for too long, or do certain things, she shows up and the other 3 disappear (and maybe the staff bots). She knows you hide in Freddy, so that won't work. She's the slowest though, and you have to use the environment to your advantage. Hide, make distractions, anything you can to get to a safe place.

As for Vanessa... make her someone else you can take advice from. Freddy says "go here", but Vanessa says "go there". Both offer different challenges, and you can choose who you follow. Hell, maybe in the "True" ending, you have to do what both of them say.

And of course... Afton. Boy, I love your model but they did not do you well. You're basically just a Dark Deception boss. You don't get the time you need. And the Blob... retcon city up in here! I like the concept but... not the execution.

And now onto the voice actors. Now the voice actors we got were amazing and did their best, but aside from Freddy and Vanessa.. the others don't get their time to shine. A way to put in personality without even adding much more is to have them interact. Chica and Roxy both patrolling an area? Chica says "Oh, I love your tail, Roxy!" "Thanks, I know". Or maybe if you're hiding in Freddy and pass by them, they say something to him, blissfully unaware

The problem I have with the VAs... there's barely any of them! I mean, look back at this list Kane made of all of these characters that Scott was hiring VAs for. Barely any of them show up at all. Imagine there being other kids, other adults, other robots, etc.

I know we'll be getting DLC and updates, but I highly doubt they can or will change the game to be in a state more like it was back then. Maybe we'll get a DLC about Vanny, and Gregory coming back? I hope. Give Vanny SOMETHING.

I still like this game, but it's... a lot different than I expected, and I'm not sure if some of these were bad choices...

What do you guys think?

I completely agree. I felt really disappointed when i finished the game today and realised it was completely different to what the February trailer was. It feels like when they delayed the game they rewritten the whole story.

Also, the performance is generally not good and the ps4 version has a lot of issues. It makes me sad because the fnaf games made by scott are very accessible. But help wanted VR and SB are not playable for a lot of people. HW did become a lot more accessible when they made the game non-vr and ported it to consoles, i just hope they can do something similar with SB and make it a lot more optimised for older/lower end hardware.

This are the dangers of getting on the hype train

I agree 100%
and I'm still salty about Roxannes canon personality, she was my favourite character leading up to this game and I hate that they made her a toxic, narcissistic bitch

I think it suits her well. The main problem is that she only has a few lines of dialogue, so you don't really get a fit for her personality outside of that. If she interacted with the others, that'd be cool. Maybe show that she does care about the others. Like have her tease Chica, she gets sad, and then Roxy quickly relents with "but you're pretty cool too." "You really think that?" "Yeah but.. now's not the time! We have to find that kid!"

that's what I was hoping for personally

I agree. Honestly even since Scott was doxed, the entire franchise began to fall apart. You cant remove the genius behind it all and expect it to be the same.

I disagree. Scott was clearly involved with this game, as told by the interview. He might not have had his hand in every pie (is that how the saying goes? Who wants hands in pies???), but the game was what he wanted. Plus, Scott is known to change games in development. According to the VAs, SL's story was wildly different, with different voices lines as well

Do you think then the game was rushed? I feel like its missing much and I would be perfectly happy to wait a few more months. This just doesn’t seem like something scott would approve and release.

Rushed? Maaaybe. I'm not sure about the schedule, and it's very clear to me that Steel Wool loves and cares about FNaF and only wanted to do what's right.

But they were also in over their britches, and should have scaled back the game. I don't necessarily mean JUST in content (I'm not sure what content they'd get rid of, tho. I like all of it, even if some of it isn't well explained [I'm looking at you, Mazercise]), but physically in scale. There's a lot of empty space, and I feel like if you got rid of some of the stuff you didn't need, you could streamline some stuff. Like I love Prize Corner, but does it nee to be that big? Could we have made El Chip's bigger in it's stead? Does the underground with the endoskeleton need to be that gigantic?

I'm designing my own PizzaPlex type place (and having it modeled), and so these are things I'm thinking about as well.

I do actually like the layout though, and how everything connects. The lobby to the daycare and the atrium. The Atrium to tons of things. Rockstar Row to the atrium, parts and service, gift shop, etc etc. Once you get to 3AM or 4AM (I forget which) and have a repaired Freddy, and the game becomes open world, you've become accustomed to how everything connects. Like when I first wnet through that gift shop to the atrium, I was like "Wow, that's great!". It really makes it clear how this place would be during the day. Kids running from daycare to the theater, while the older kids go to the arcade, and parents sit in El Chip's.
