SSE Synthesis Mod Patcher Question

Does Synthesis work with win7 or is Win 10 required? I have the prog installed and set to run through MO2 but nothing happens when I hit run . Having watched several vids that tell me to install Lexy's patch or Engardes patch but don't explain why I need these patches. I would think I need them to patch those mods . I don't use either mod,
