Are elevated food bowls that bad? Why exactly does it lead to bloat?

Discussion

Just because I bought one for Luna, my Samoyed. I just thought bending down too far would make her neck ache so thought an elevated food bowl would ease that. But now I heard it causes bloat so now I bought it for no reason lol.

Yeah I know right! I'm wondering because I've been googling this stuff and says there's conflicting research about it. So just want to know what others think 🤔

There’s so much conflicting information out there. A lot of articles say that elevated food bowls only help for certain breeds that take in a lot of air while they eat, like boxers, pugs and bulldogs, because of their flat faces. Some articles say they don’t help at all. I choose to feed my boxer with an elevated bowl because otherwise she gets really bad gas and hiccups.

Our vet suggested an elevated food bowl since our dog was horking up her food.

I hadnt previously read anything negative but I have a very tall golden who used to love drinking out of the toilet until I got him an elevated bowl. Now toilet bowl water is no longer on his menu and he gets his water strictly from his elevated bowl. I can conclude that this is way more comfortable for him and that’s all that matters to me!

I thought it was the opposite?

I thought it reduced bloating and was less stress on the neck, back and spine which is why I bought both my dogs elevated food bowls.
