Finished season 2 and there are a couple of things that weren’t clear

SpoilerNetflix TV series

I rewatched season 1 before starting 2 and it was great but season 2 left me with some questions that the series didn’t seem to do a good job explaining. I haven’t read the books nor played the games so I’m not sure if this is supposed to be explained later.

  • if the white flame is Ciri’s father, why couldn’t he just come back to Cintra peacefully to see his daughter and how was he able to become king (?) of Nilfguard?
  • why did Ciri’s parents need to leave - was the secret her elder blood? How would people have found out whether the parents stayed or not?
  • it was hard to understand the significance of the dead mother. So witchers trapped her in the hut long ago but when the 3 mages went into the crypt and their vulnerabilities were exposed the dead mother had a chance to escape? Was it Fringilla giving in to her’s and killing the Nilfguard soldiers that set the dead mother free?
  • why did yennefer lose her powers after encountering the dead mother when the other two mages didn’t?
  • why did Yennefer save Cahir? It didn’t seem like they had any connection at that point and she had recently fought a battle against him, seems like she would want to execute him for killing some of her friends
  • how did Geralt know where the monolith/obsidian dragon would be when he and Ciri went to the lake?
  • why was Geralt sure he could talk Ciri into taking back control after the dead mother took her over? He and Ciri just stood there anti-climactically as he said “cmon Ciri” and witchers around them died
  • not sure if I want a spoiler on this but the wild hunt was mentioned a few times but no one have context as to what it is

Emhyrs true identity was the biggest secret int he story, him proclaiming it in front of whole court was BS

Yen lost her magic after Sodden, before witch

In books wild hunt is omen of war and brings death, here No one knows wtf Luren came up with instead, its all made up

I dont think so. It may be some hybrid of these two ideas, but with what we've seen so far it looks more like book inspired completely new entity

When I saw her Emhyr show up in her dream thing, and how fucking much it zoomed in on his face. I knew we were fucked. I'm so mad lol

Yen losing her powers isn't related to Baba Yaga. She burned herself out of magic when she went nuclear at Sodden. It's not something from the books but it's a reasonable explanation. It's a thing in Wheel of Time and other fantasy shows.

Now why they added that? If it was to show that Yen is absolutely useless without her powers, that being 100 years old doesn't give you wisdom and that there's little she wouldn't do to get her powers back. Kudos.

1.) In the books, he kept his relation to Ciri a secret, because he wanted to marry her, legitimising the claim for the Cintrian throne and conceiving a child, which would supposedly stop the end of the world. I have no idea why they decided to make him reveal himself as Ciri's father in the show though. Kind of makes his plan impossible now.

2.) Ciri's parents, Duny (Emhyr) and Pavetta left on a cruise with a ship near the Skellige isles. In the book, Emhyr is in league with >! Vilgefortz !< and has prepared a portal inside a vortex, which would transport them to him and allow them to study Ciri's blood. Pavetta figured it out, so she kept Ciri with the Skelligers and Emhyr later killed her because of it, by throwing her overboard, leading people to assume they both died in a seastorm.

3.) Yennefer lost her powers at the battle of Sodden because of her using Fire Magic. Fire magic eats away at your morals/soul (I think) which is the reason why many fire mages are evil and why it is forbidden. In the books, Ciri uses fire magic and is tempted by the prospect of killing everyone who stands in her way. She refuses, severing her tie to magic. I guess they decided to have that happen to Yen instead.

Whereas the rest, I have no idea. It doesn't make sense to me either.

Ciri's father Duny is the son of the previous emperor of Nilfgaard. The usurper cursed Duny in an attempt to get to his father. Duny escaped and showed up in Cintra claiming to be the bastard son of the dead king of Maecht, and fell in love with the princess Pavetta, Ciri's mother. Later he secretly tried to take Pavetta and Ciri back to Nilfgaard with him. They went sailing in Skellige (islands where Pavetta had family relations) but Duny had been conspiring with the mage Vilgefortz to teleport the ship to Nilfgaard. Pavetta found out about his plan and left Ciri behind on shore. They argued and she ended up falling overboard, drowning, so only Duny was teleported.

He's coming back with an army because Nilfgaard has always tried to conquer the North. They've already taken a lot of territory between them and the northern kingdoms. They see themselves as bringing order and civilization. Emhyr also believes in the prophecy of Ithlinne, which is recited a few times in the show. It says that a time of great chaos and war will occur and then a world-altering ice age. He needs Ciri to help him conquer the rest of the world and try to stop this from happening.

The dead mother is a show thing, can't help you there. Also Yennefer losing her powers is a show thing, though I think they meant to say that she lost them because she used fire magic or something. I'm guessing she saved Cahir because she thought to bargain with Nilfgaard to have them help her get her magic back.

The Wild Hunt are ancient elves who ride between the planes grabbing slaves for their homeworld. They ride physically when they can, sometimes just a spectral projection. Obviously having a person capable of opening portals to different planes would be useful for their chosen occupation...

Emhyr couldn’t return friendly since he just should explain a lot of deaths, and lies to calanthe (including death of her daughter), she disliked him before. What will Calanthe think after all this events? Honestly from books it felt that Emgyr is extra power hunger individual always ready for more just to achieve his goals. How could he return peacefully?

Hey old hag, i ruined all your marriage plans, killed a bunch of your people on purpose, and your daughter (hey it’s just accident). Anyway as I finally claimed my kingdom (which i need to expend), since your daughter is dead, and you hag have husband—the only way for me to have legal rights at cintra crown is having you and your husband dead….but i still need to be married to someone from cintra royal family- in our case your grand-daughter ik that incest is so huge sin, but i need power for myself and more territories, can you and Eist die extra fast and give me ciri asap?

thats how his peaceful monologue probably would sound
