My Episodes. (Slight TW S.)

I’ve been running from this episode

It’ll surround me before I know

Just as you expect

I’ll be the suspect

It builds off of my fears and regrets

Here I go again

Another state of being glum

I can’t help myself, I’ll evade the sun

And cut my ties with everyone

The cold nip in the air

Brings my self worth under stare

My proneness to anger becomes a headache

These tempered thoughts fill my headspace

As I embrace the inevitable wave

That will soon engulf me into its craze

Swallowed whole from this sleep debt

Tangled up in my mind fishnet

How can I begin to explain my resent

For this devil in my bloodstream

That is constantly attacking my self-esteem

And cutting the course to my hopes and dreams

Feeding myself lies to cope with the disease

Faking a smile to cover what’s beneath

Forcing myself to act “in empathy”

A constant thought to just

Decease

This is really well written and I love the carefully considered metaphors which really help to illustrate your message. I like the use of a rhyme scheme which really creates a nice flow to the poem, but my only comment would be to make sure that you aren't continuing the rhyme for the sake of it, some lines feel slightly clunky, for example 'under stare'. But overall I think that it could work in some sense to really reinforce perhaps the messiness of your subject topic.

I do often find myself continuing a pattern for the sake of the rhythm and I'm trying to expand my ways and linger on a few lines or just break up the pattern in a few spots. Thanks for the words that got me thinking on some aspects. Cheers!

Line after line felt more and more impactful. It felt like I was experiencing this "episode" you're referring to. For me, this is one of the powerful things a poet could do to encapsulate their audience and feel what the poet is trying to make us feel in the hopes of finally being understood. If this poem is close to home, I hope these "episodes" will eventually roll to the credits. Thank you for sharing this.

Thanks for the kind words, I'm glad it reached you. This poem does hit hard for me as I can barely read it without a tremble in my voice. Things are turning upward for the most part. Cheers!

This reads to me like an episode of depression, rather the dread before it. It went to quite a dark place at the end but then depression can be that way and i applaud you for being direct about this. Lines i really liked .....forcing...empathy ....devil....bloodstream Thanks for sharing and i hope you're doing well and will continue to do so
