Nice elevation gain! Terrain looks beautiful.
Incredible…. I am trying to just do 15 miles a day, 5 days a week for the years but 100km ….. that amazing
If you do 15mi/daily you can probably do 100km. Just pick a day and try a new distance! 15mi to 40mi was a pretty easy jump for me!
Thanks!
I agree on the increase. It's pretty easy to build up from 15 miles to 40 or so. Once you get into some longer rides like a 50 miler or a 100km you start getting into fueling strategies as you need to eat and make sure you are hydrated, especially if it's warm out. If I do a 40 I'd eat a single snack along the way, maybe 2.
Gotta love Arizona in the winter!
Nice mileage!🤘🤘🤘
I normally try to do the 100km Strava Challenge on the first day of the month and January 1, 2022 was no exception.
Last year I did a hilly ride so I decided to do that again.
January 1, 2021 Ride
Stats:
66.6 miles / 107 km
7349ft / 2340m
13.7 mph / 22 km/h average
Average speed was pretty slow, for me, but you know hills and unfortunately there were 14-15mph (9 km/h) winds and random higher gusts.
Food: 800 cals of stroopwafels, gels, dates, and a few PB-filled pretzels.
Water: ~2L. 1 Nuun tablet total.
Photo is the sign and an overview of the Golden Eagle hill in Fountain Hills, AZ I went up during the ride.
To anyone looking to hit a 100km or longer ride this year:
Good luck - You can do it!
If you want any long-ride tips, feel free to AMA.
What was the temperature?
Low-mid 50s, I think my weather app said "felt like" 3-4 degrees cooler due to the winds.
So roughly 10C. Sounds reasonably pleasant.
