Anxiety’s Chant (working title)

It’s gonna be okay

It’s gonna be alright

Make it through this day

And see the sunlight

Now, take a deep breath

Again. And one more.

Please, take a seat

Think of the shore

This is a moment

This is a feeling

You are here. Alive.

Now, what needs doing.

(Could you guys help suggest an alternative title? I am looking for a title that describes a way to banish anxiety or dispel it.)

Aw I love this! The first stanza is my favourite!

I like the reminders at the end of “this is a moment, this is a feeling”.

My only suggestion is the final line should perhaps end with a question mark.

With regards to the title, my therapist actually gave me something very similar and calls it the “anxiety prayer” so similar to the one you’ve picked right now! Or maybe if you want banish/dispel: anxiety cure/remedy or something more wordy like “the remedy to anxiety”?

Great job!!

Thanks for the suggestions!

Also, I want to keep that last line as it is because I want to make that last line a statement.

This is extremely relatable. I think almost anyone with anxiety would recognize the need for familiar, comfortable, and reassuring mantras to help us through the worst of it. Gosh, and the breathing too. Well done 🥰

I will say though that your title almost made me expect that the poem was going to be about the things anxiety makes us believe rather than what we tell ourselves to combat it, so I hope you do find one more fitting.

I like how the lesson of this poem can be implemented in a real life situation, with the second stanza specifically giving calming and useful direction to the reader. At first I was going to suggest the inclusion of more captivating imagery however I believe the point of your word choice was to be universal, easy to understand and therefore get its point across - it does this well. I have seen in a previous comment that you did not want to include a “?” as you wanted the final line to be more of a statement. I would encourage you to consider rewording this line slightly to ensure the reader is able to interpret this as such.

For the title I quite like the idea of “Moment” to reinforce the poem’s subject matter.
