Is Kontakt 6 considered Komplete 13 Select? Do boxed versions have any downsides?

Sorry for the dumb question. I have a digital license of Kontakt 6 that I purchased from NI, I'm looking to upgrade to Komplete 13 and the best price I can find is a boxed copy from music retailers, it's around £100 cheaper compared to NI's own digital store.

NI considers my upgrade from Kontakt 6 to Komplete as a "Upgrade from Select" SKU - I don't have Komplete 13 Select, only Kontakt 6! But I was wondering if there's any problems that can happen if I choose to go with a boxed copy of Komplete 13 Upgrade and just go from there.

Is there any downsides or possible mismatches? Do you still get all the digital licenses and Native Access stuff?

Thank you.

So you only have Kontact and nothing else from Komplete? You’ll need at least Komplete select to upgrade, otherwise yes, that purchase won’t help you.

Yeah, it's just that the actual checkout NI gives me shows this https://i.imgur.com/ekaeqea.png, it's for the boxed version too.

I just can't get that much info about it, is it a newer thing?

NI does significant discounts online periodically. It's a pretty bad idea to buy it at full price, or even 100 off.

One of the best ways to upgrade is to buy an NKI device like a NI keyboard or Maschine to get a free copy of Komplete Select, then upgrade to full on a sale later down the road.

Having a copy of Kontakt 6 won't do anything for you.

I looked into this before getting Komplete. The keyboards that come with Select cost more than just buying Komplete standard at full price.

That's true. But you also get a keyboard.

Looks like you can get an upgrade from Kontakt to Komplete based on the table on this page: https://support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us

In terms of where to get it from - I would imagine you'll need it buy it from NI directly as presumably they are selling you a specific upgrade (even if it's listed as being from Select). The upgrades from retailers may be reliant on you already owning the base product (Select) and may not work as an upgrade from Kontakt. Though you could ask their support team if that's the case - the issue is that you will probably struggle to get a refund from the retailer if you've got the wrong product.

In general terms, there are no other downsides to buying physical upgrades - you still get the licence key and you also get a (fairly slow) hard drive that includes the software ( though may not be the latest version). I upgraded using a physical copy from Anderton's and it worked out fine.

i think the downside is, you will have to wait for the box to arrive before you can install the libraries… i believe that was it…
