You ever think maybe the foundation of all Christianity on a guy who never heard any of the actual in-person teachings of Jesus, and only wrote his own interpretations of second-hand reports, might be a not-so-great idea?

The gospels just describe the life of Jesus, and the bible didn't found the church, that was Peter. The church made the bible to record the teachings of God, the bible didn't make Christianity.

The only thing that matters is Jesus’ spoken word. All else is human interpretation.

I mean, Jesus spoke the words that would give Peter his power to establish a church, so surely he would have known Peter would do a good enough job to set up a church that would canonize scriptures.
