Suddenly, It’s 2022

I was told that this would happen

later on in life— looking back,

questioning, begging for an answer

to where the time had gone.

I was told, rather harshly,

in no uncertain terms; to spend my youth

youthfully— with a rested, carefree head;

empty of existential dread.

​

I was told, at the very least,

that this would happen— thirty two years later

than my current age of twenty three;

​

and yet, I am looking, questioning,

begging, for the last twenty one months

to be returned back to me.

​

I am still just twenty one—

at heart, in mind; while feeling fifty five

in my lungs and my spine.

One month ago, it was December,

2019...
