Stephen King's new Dark Tower novel set for release on April 24th... Finally!

Stephen King's new book "The Wind Through the Keyhole" is FINALLY ready to be released. It's a new story set in the Dark Tower universe, with Roland narrating a story of a hero even older than he is. As a King fan, I am unbelievably excited for this

Should be fun. I am currently re-reading the series for the first time, and I can tell I missed a lot in my first read. I'm on The Drawing of the Three so I need to get in gear so I can finish book 4 by April 24th. I can't get enough of the Dark Tower universe, it is so vast it may as well be endless.

Great, I was worried about how I had only read the first three so far, but now I'll be ready with one more.

Ah, man, I upvoted this from 19 to 20. My bad.

My only beef with it is the length. The hardcover is retailing $27 and it's only 320 pages long? Seriously?

EDIT: That's over 100 pages shorter than Song of Susannah.

I think the price for the hardcover is high, but I'm not that worried about the length. The Gunslinger was only like 200 pages, but I enjoyed it a lot. I do use a Kindle though, so pricing is always favorable to me

Yeah, I agree. I don't care if it's freaking 100 pages. As long as it's enjoyable, I'll happily shell out my money on a book by King. Especially since I'd be getting the shiny first edition.

Try a used book store. You may find pricing is not always in your favor

On second thought, I'll just wait and get some opinions before I buy it new.

Forgive me if it's addressed elsewhere, I only read the review for the last book (because I feel that's where most peoples problems lie) but I disagree with your take on the ending. I don't know how to do spoiler tags so I won't post the end, but it's a little different than you make it out. The horn is very very important, and I feel like you left it out of your review. Also the piece about Flagg and Mordred in there makes it out to be a lot more mundane than it actually was.

I do agree that there is a lot of Deus Ex Machina in the series, but if you consider the setting of that story from the beginning you kind of had to expect it. In a world like that any explanation is either going to involve deus ex machina or be completely predictable.

Also forgot to mention this, but you know how things seem to get rushed towards the end? I'm not sure if this was intentional or not, but I like to interpret that as things just getting more hectic the closer you get to the tower.

Honestly, my only problem with book 7 was [Spoiler](/s "Flagg's death. Everything else was great, and Roland's ending was one of the most emotionally powerful things I've ever read"")

Great review/summary. I have made many of the same compliments and complaints myself when discussing the series. I especially agree with what you say regarding Book 7 Spoiler, as well as all of the meta stuff.
