Looks very good!
I'm thinking of something similar, but maybe Khorne/Mephiston red for non-metallic.
It seems like most people do gold first (and shade+highlight), and colored areas on top. Have you tried the other way? (I assume it's a hassle)
It worked well for me because I wanted the contrast red to have the metallic look. I think for doing it non metallic red I'd still go gold first. Mephiston red & Khorne have such good pigment it would go over the gold with ease to block it out where as I'm not sure the gold is so good for covering the red.
Makes sense, thanks!
I would say if you plan to airbrush the armor then I would recommend painting the gold trim by hand as I have. Check out my post history for examples. I'm not a fan of the candied armor look you get with the gold undercoating, but if thats your goal then go with the gold paint first. I think either way it is a hassle. Thousand sons are so ornate!
Yeah, I would airbrush it. I'll check your posts!
And they look killer too! You should be proud. Big accomplishment. I painted my first 5 of thirty. Such a chore that I went and painted EVERYTHING ELSE so now I have to go back and finalize my rubrics.
I was so shocked out how long they took to do vs the Space Wolves I did the year before. They are very fiddly to get into all the groves and not spoil to gold too badly. I wish you luck friend!
Far left one in the front row looks super cool! Love the 30k color scheme.
Wooh Crimson Sons represent! Red and gold livery is the only way to go with 1k sons, very nice job!
Love the gold, how did you paint it?
