Possible CA transplant

🌵

Me and the wife are thinking about moving in about a year- 18 months time into az (so family is only a half day drive) but question is, what are the main difference in gun laws compared to ca? To my knowledge, az doesn’t have laws about mags, rifles, pistol list, nor 10 day bs. Is there anything I missed??

Here is my best example I have. I was pulled over one time in Northern AZ. I had a loaded and concealed handgun without a permit. I had an AK with 30rnd mag in sitting on the side seat next to me and a chest rig full of 30rnd mags next to that. The deputies response was asking if AKs are any fun to shoot compared to ARs. Everything was very legal.

Same, my p226 was in the glove box with my registration. Told the cop I would have to pull it out to get my registration, and when I did, he asked me what aftermarket trigger I had since he could see the set screw.

Sounds like you are well on the right track, but make sure to leave CA policy and politics where you left.

23
jmm701•

Yup. My thoughts also.

4
DMURRICAOP•

No shit Sherlock, main reason why im leaving CA.

2†
huntercunning•

Ay we on the same page boss. Worth saying regardless of who is coming. I did the same thing myself. It is a whole different world on the other side.

10
DMURRICAOP•

You mean it’s America not commiefornia

6

Just stay where you are, you fucked the state up, fix it or deal.

-10
DMURRICAOP•

So voting against the bs is fucking up the state? You’re ignorant af. Doofy go back in your room with the vacuum 🤡

Belkan-FederationPhoenix•

"Wait what is this 'gun control' you speak of?"

-Arizona

phibbsy47•

Hell, we even have laws preventing more gun laws, hb2111.

10
w2tpmfPhoenix•

what are the main difference in gun laws compared to ca?

Let's keep it short.

Think of any one of the many stupid as gun laws in California.

We don't have that here. Doesn't matter which one you picked.

17
klieber•

Are there any AZ-specific gun control laws? I was always under the impression that if it’s legal under Federal law, it’s legal in AZ.

6
LuckyTabasco•

The only area AZ lacks in is rights restoration.

6
agens_aequivocumPhoenix•

And school carry, and that government entity can prohibit carry, and that you cannot open carry to any place that sells alcohol for on premises consumption, or conceal if they post a sign, and have a single drink when out to dinner with your family, and polling places on election day, and the fact that knives are prohibit even from your car on school grounds.

1
LuckyTabasco•

I've carried concealed literally everywhere it is prohibited. But you're right, all those laws are infringements.

1
mrfrogac•

Just Tribal council stuff. Not AZ state as a whole

4
TheRabidSpatula•

Wait, we have gun laws here? Wouldn't know. 🤷‍♂️

11

Open carry, easy to get concealed, can get ammo direct through mail, can buy a weapon from someone without FFL, lots of desert that’s legal to shoot in and not as many of your guys crazy restrictions with pistols and magazines

10
Unicorb8•

Constitutional carry*

16
gruntkore•

Yeah no permit needed to conceal here BUT technically you need a permit to carry concealed within 1000 feet of a school which in most of Phoenix is probably impossible...

7
-HalfMoon-•

Also, don't forget that a CCW lets you bypass the NICS check when buying guns, and often lowers and transfer fees if you ship something to your local store. Here in Kingman it's $50 for transfers, but only $30 if you have a CCW and don't need the NICS.

8
klieber•

Easy to get concealed, but not required. You can conceal carry without a permit. Lots of good reasons to still get a CCP (and I have mine) but it’s not legally required.

Just wanted to clarify that point for OP.

i bought a firearm the day i got my temporaty state ID.... and walked out of the store with it...

10
kkidfall•

Ditto! It was Soo nice to do that coming from shitty NY

2
gruntkore•

AZ has the best gun laws in the country. CA probably has the worst so make of that what you will

8

I’d argue NY State is worse than California.

8
Quake_Guy•

France has better gun laws than NY...

1
gruntkore•

Hence the "probably". Either/or. AZ is the best state anyway so I don't worry myself too much about outside affairs 😉

-1
DMURRICAOP•

I heard Idaho is competing for “free-est” state tho but to far of drive back for my wife to do solo if she wanted.

1
DMURRICAOP•

Yea, seems like ca and ny state compete for the most commie state of the us award 🤣🤣

3
AllArmsLLC07/02 Gilbert•

Except for Constitutional Carry, Indiana is better. And they might get CC this year.

DMURRICAOP•

There’s more??? 🤩🤩🤣🤣

3

Take every gun law you have in California. Now that you’ve got them, throw them away and that’s Arizona in the nutshell.

5
Belkan-FederationPhoenix•

Wait what is gun control

3
DMURRICAOP•

Niiiiiice 🇺🇸🤘🏻

1
aaatttppp•

Carry concealed WITHOUT a license.

4
donkey5332•

Suppressors ! Suppressors are legal here . Feel like somehow this got skipped over . Still have to follow NFA laws wait time but worth it

8
DMURRICAOP•

Didn’t Texas give the middle finger to the nfa in regards to suppressors??

6
airbornchaos•

Feds: Good luck with that.

8
DMURRICAOP•

🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

1
donkey5332•

They tried but it’s still a current muddy mess. I don’t think anyone is trying to sell nonNFA suppressors in Texas yet . But hopefully it’s one of those laws that finally breaks .

3
AllArmsLLC07/02 Gilbert•

It was a statement law, nothing more. It has no effect on federal law.

This video is about 20 minutes and gives you an in-depth look at Arizona gun laws. The guy speaking is FPC lawyer Matthew Larosiere, fantastic gun rights attorney.

7
DMURRICAOP•

Fpc is awesome. I make Amazon donate to them 🤣🤣 if you’re wondering how look up Amazon smile and select FPF.

6
DesertRoamin•

And depending on where you move in AZ there could be plenty of outdoor shooting opportunities nearby. I can drive for 10 minutes and be setting up my own spot in the desert.

6
DMURRICAOP•

As much as I don’t want to, it’ll probably be semi close to phoenix or Tucson cause the work I do currently, or because job market in general. Would love to go up by flagstaff because me and heat don’t get along( built for cold weather) 🤣🤣🤣

3
gruntkore•

Flagstaff is one of my favorite places in the USA. Unfortunately it's very expensive to live there

6
DMURRICAOP•

I figured since it seems like the big bear or something of AZ.

3
fatherdeath•

Gilbert queen creek stay out of the major cities still

1
DMURRICAOP•

We definitely aren’t gonna be in the city but easy commute. We’re gonna try and do a cpl visits to different places in az this year. We want to try to stay outta the smog/ emission zones if possible aswell.

3
kyrosnick•

Which means Maricopa or Pima county, where Phoenix and Tucson are.

3
fatherdeath•

san tan is easy and its in pinal no emissions so you can go catless

3
Aspen910•

I heard NVGs are illegal in CA. That’s just weird.

6
DMURRICAOP•

To poor to own them if they are legal 🤣 but I think there’s guys in CA that have them without bs

3
-HalfMoon-•

They are only illegal if you mount them to a weapon. I bought and owned a couple PVS14s when I lived there.

Stupidity.

PVS on your helmet and a DBAL/other is legal there, but mount the PVS and go directly to jail.

3
BladeActusl•

I also moved here from CA what I’ll say is it’s one of the best feelings pulling all the CA compliant crap off your AR and returning it to its true glory I then throw away all the CA crap

4
QuietM4•

No Vacancy.

4
DMURRICAOP•

Are you in the under 40% born in az or over 60% that moved there?

3
QuietM4•

Born here. We're full.

3
DMURRICAOP•

So you do realize less than 40%(almost only 30%) Arizonans are born and raised there. Why would you discourage patriotic people from moving to the state? Do you like the current path of its now “purple” heading to blue politically? 🤡

3

get the hint, nobody wants you here.

2

we're full. go to nevada instead.

4
DMURRICAOP•

Are you one of the under 40% born in az or the over 60% that moved there?

3

makes no difference.

4
DMURRICAOP•

So what compelled you to say that. you’re acting like it’s not already a “purple” state, more patriotism would make the state red again. 🤡

0

except that youre a commie.

2
Patriotupinarms•

We're not a god damn purple state 🤮

2
fatherdeath•

do you want to taste freedom? az pretty much has no gun laws

3
DMURRICAOP•

I want to finally suckle freedoms teet like the founding fathers wanted 🤣🤣

1
fatherdeath•

yeah its pretty much wild west here you can carry what you want get all the nfa fun stuff you want and shoot in most blm and national forest out side of certain posted areas

4
gruntkore•

I honestly feel that AZ is a safer place because of the more relaxed laws. Anyone, anywhere could be carrying so it's not like Chicago or somewhere where only the criminals are packing

2†
fatherdeath•

oh 100% I carry in cali and Chicago when I go there

5
DMURRICAOP•

I went to TX for work and for a very short time and that’s how it felt out there, so that’s very good to know

2
DMURRICAOP•

Nfa is still tax stamp tho, correct?

1
[deleted]•

[removed]

4
fatherdeath•

Yup

2
gruntkore•

That's a federal law so yeah

1
gogol_bordello•

I just moved here (Phoenix area) from CA and it's been the best decision I've made in years!

3
DMURRICAOP•

That’s what I’ve been hearing. Been trying to inch my lady to the point over the last cpl/ few years and what’s finally made her want to look for better living is gas(not car fuel) went up like 110% in atleast the IE if not the entire state this month.

3
gogol_bordello•

Taxes are better too. With CA considering a single-payer healthcare system, it could get pretty expensive pretty fast out there. Plus the constant masking and traffic, I don't miss it at all.

1†
DMURRICAOP•

Yea I’ve been over masks since the beginning, for the most part most I did was use my shirt as a mask 🤣 only used them when forced to on a cpl job sites. But yea I’ve been hearing overall quality and cost of living are leaps and bounds better.

2
DMURRICAOP•

Is there firearm registration in AZ??

2
huntercunning•

Lol. No.

15
fatherdeath•

It’s actually banned via state constitution

8
agens_aequivocumPhoenix•

Via statute not the constitution.
