That app you are using is a GTK4 app. You can just press CTRL+. to open an emoji picker ;D

GTK3 apps support that as well, but not all apps/toolkits do. This is a nice alternative to have around, and I thought people might like to know about it.

GTK3 does? I did not know, that's cool. Also I just checked this. You need to have the Characters app installed for this to appear. Should probably mention that :D

Another useful search (imo) is the unit converter using ’in'. For example '37 c in f' to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit.

manobataibuvoduGNOMieβ€’

sadly it disappears if you append "emoji" to your search. for example if I search for "cat" there's a lot of search results on top of characters app, but if I search "cat emoji" there's only results from firefox to search with google.

That's cool! Never knew about it Do you use custom icons for quickly switching views or you use default ones?

3
GabMusOPGNOME Developerβ€’

What do you mean by switching between views?

2
WrongW4yGNOMieβ€’

Ah sorry,i thought that at one moment you switched (activities screen, desktop?) But you were whole time on same desktop.

But still, is it okay to ask how you switch from desktop 1 to 2, i find using page up and down difficult(requires two hands),and how would you sent some window from desktop 1 to 2 with a shortcut.

Thanks!

There are shortcuts you can customize in the settings app, the defaults are ctrl+alt+shift+right/left arrow or super+shift+page up/down to move the current window between workspaces. Remove the shift to just move between workspaces without moving your current window.

Thank you,il check it later.

That's the Characters app "search provider".

A faster way is Ulauncher with the emoji plugin. I just press Ctrl-Space, type "em cowboy" and press enter to get the cowboy emoji. I say faster because this is devoted to emojis and doesn't come up with tons of other results like the Characters app does.

I’ll try it. I use ulauncher with emoji addon to do this today

waimusGNOMieβ€’

This is very convenient. The problem is just I don't know most emoji names so I ended up open character map.

If only there is was a way to add chromium browsers to search like Firefox. I use brave and would like it to be used as a suggestion.

1
NoMansSkyWasAlrightGNOMieβ€’

I don't have that. Guess I'll just have to write "sad face"

1
Le_AnnoGNOMieβ€’

Do you have GNOME's Character app installed and enabled the search provider in the GNOME settings app?

2
NoMansSkyWasAlrightGNOMieβ€’

I do not. May have to get that though. Seems like a useful thing to have

And what are the tools.we have to purge these emojis forever Do we have something to remove if people send these things on messages/emails?

People don't know how to write nowadays. They write things like this.

I am going to find a car πŸš™

Yeh, I know what a car means.

ok, boomer πŸ™„

Culture changes, and I for one like how an emoji can communicate an emotion. Having more tools to be able to express human emotion is perfectly fine.

The overly-lazy millennials, obviously

Because it would be very terrible if you could signal emotion, intent, or many other things with one symbol instead of a whole paragraph

But seriously, sure some people overuse the shit out of them, but emojis are actually very useful and fun imo. They provide the subtle queues your face would be providing in an in-person convo

2
leoheckGNOMieβ€’

No, dude. When I am working and doing shit I don't give a fuck about other emotions. I don't give a fuck for a bunch of egg like yellow smiles that don't mean shit because you are not seeing the person and then you cannot tell if this is true or not. But I am definitely not talking about these 1 or 2 per conversation emotions, definitely not. I am complaining about the whole useless emotions that people from these new companies use on every fucking sentence. Emoji with fire, fireworks, drinks and and other shit that don't even need to be there because people already put the written word before. Also, if people writes a fucking huge paragraph that requires this shit to highlight parts of it, then the whole paragraph is useless and it should be reduced. In other words emojis are ok. Just people that are fucking dumb.

So, do you smart guys know any possible way to purge this once for all on my own computer somehow?

Sure! Go into /usr/share/fonts and delete whatever font is providing your emojis. I think on Fedora it's Noto. Sure, it'll mess up your font system but the colored emojis will be gone!

No but actually I don't think there's any good way to nuke emojis from your system. Just avoid using them. Maybe there's a browser extension to hide them from the web πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

blackcainGNOME Contributorβ€’

Just remove the font pack that contains the emojis and you should be good to go. I don't know what that is as it is depends on the name of the packaging for the distro you use.

Emoji with fire, fireworks, drinks and and other shit that don't even need to be there because people already put the written word before.

Being annoyed my emojis in daily conversations is somewhat ridiculous in itself, but caring when people utilize them in addition to fully readable text is just absurd, especially if we're talking about private messages.

Sure, people using a ton of them in a single sentence without actually trying to joke around in a chat are weird, but the ones who append emojis to their sentences after having already communicated their mind with words do it to for fun.
