Grant and James not a part of recording Voyeurist?

Just noticed the credits on the Voyeurist vinyl I received yesterday and Grant and James are listed as band members, but not on recording credits.

Anyone know what's up with that?

They don’t write/record, they haven’t since Disambiguation AFAIK. They came in and helped on this record and Erase Me.

I knew they didn't write but it's strange to me for someone to be in a band and not record the parts even if they didn't write them. So they're just live members I guess?

Tim has recorded all guitars and bass since Erase Me. They decided to limit how many cooks are in the kitchen in order to reduce arguments/conflict.

Interesting, but makes sense. I guess as long as all members are making money from the shows, merch, and album sells/streams then it's all good.

This is incredibly common. I’m in a 5 piece that is only a 2-piece in the studio.

I suppose. I've been in several bands over the years and everyone in every band has always recorded their own parts. I personally wouldn't want to be in a band where my own touch wasn't present on the albums.

It's pretty common in career bands. Same with songwriting roles. Most of the time it's really 1 or 2 dudes in particular who handle it all.

I can say as far as my experience goes, over the years I myself I have lost interest in the songwriting duties aspect of being in a band. Far prefer to come in later to figure out leads and adjust arrangements

If I am not mistaken caleb shomo is the sole writer for Beartooth so it's def a thing for less writers in a studio.

Legit was just about to ask this question. I read the wall of sound interview and they said Underoath is a 4 member band, but 6 live 🤨. It really confused me. Do James and Grant not want to record/write? I just hope they all stay together - ha so if they’re all happy then that’s good, but I still find it weird they don’t all write and record. Doesn’t seem like a band as much when described the way Wall of Sound described it.

Curious if Chris reads this if he could chime in. Paging u/chrisoath

Alot of bands have just one of their stringed musicians recording both guitar and bass parts in order for the tracks to be super tight and consistent

This for sure.

James and Grant still absolutely kill it live. Grant is always throwing down and James's guitar is the anchor.
