Framerates down by half in a week, what is wrong?

Solved: see bottom:

So over the last week my frame rates have gone down by a lot and I have no clue what is wrong. Any ideas how to further test would be much appreciated

ACC normal used to be 150 fps now 80. Gives a brief excessive cpu load warning when loading in game

ACC VR big stutters Ran smoothly before. Interesting is that despite running like shit, GPU and CPU frame times are low and do not go up during stutters. GPU and CPU load both around 50 to 70% and low temps (50 - 60 deg C)

Sea of thieves. With VSync enabled it stutters a little bit but generally gives smooth 75 fps. With Vsync disbled it struggles to go above 90 and gives massive stutters

I tried oc-ing a little bit, this results in massive instability. Running the Asus IA tool just crashed the pc immediatly after it started the load test

What I tried until now with no improvement

  1. swapping ram around and removing some, with no result
  2. update of bios and driver
  3. Fresh windows install
  4. I ran the passmark test suit. nothing super weird comes out except
    1. CPU scores oddly high (13712)
    2. Poor 2D performance (704, beaten by a 1060 system)
    3. Memory write speed low (only 10000)
    4. NVME speeds low (read 2139, write 1606)

PC:

AMD 1600x

b350f

3080ti

32gb corsair vengeance 3200 + 16gb gskill 3000 (currently removed)

samsung 980 1TB nvme

850W corsair psu

Im kinda wondering if there is an issue with either CPU or mainboard. Any ideas on what to test next would be awesome

Thanks for reading and possibly answering :)

All my performance issues were caused by a WD SSD. It was still working perfectly but was somehow causing the whole system to slow down. Discovered after I upgraded CPU + Mobo and testing with only my main NVME drive connected. After reconnecting the SSD in question everything went to shit again.

If you have the G-Force Experience ™ installed, there are some setting in there that may be limiting your frames. Apparently, an update defaulted some things.

While this video is about DCS (and he talks w/o getting to the point for about half the time) it shows where to look. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPCg1JU-ULI&t=366s
