Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our [feedback guide](https://new.reddit.com/r/ocpoetry/wiki/feedbackcritiques), or look

As for the meaning I was going for, it is in a way about a mountain climber who fell and did indeed die, but in death found freedom. (okay real explanation) It’s about the journey for truth and meaning in life, which manifest themselves in the form of love, of climbing that mountain of ignorance and desolation from crippling isolation and rejection, falling and breaking down from the pain of holding on (hence thorny branch) being crushed by the weight of all which paralyzes you (avalanche), into the abyss, which consists of all that you repress, the deepest darkest corners of your subconscious, your pain and your fears, most notably, that of letting go. You hit the water, and you fight for life, your ego fights to survive, as human nature is to resist change, yet eventually you accept your fate, which is freedom. Freedom that comes in the form of letting go, of fear, of outcomes, of the past and the future. Suddenly, you see the world differen

I like the free flowing barrage of alliteration and rhyme in here but I think the poem would benefit from some punctuation, helping the reader find a cadence to the lines.

I can't make up my mind what I think this poem is about. On one hand I see the literal interpretation of a mountain climber who has fallen and (I think) survived, but come so close to death they appreciate life. On the other I see the story of a failed suicide attempt, and the "How lovely the bitter taste of defeat" is them realising they're glad they failed. I'd be interested to know exactly what you werre going for.
