Best Crab Rangoon in Columbus #2

Filling - I was very impressed with Nida’s filling. I thought it was the highlight of these rangoons. The flavor was an excellent savory blend of onion and garlic. It was one of the surprisingly uncommon crab rangoon where I could actually taste the crab. Generally, ‘crab’ rangoon is a misnomer as it’s not usually the dominant flavor. The filling was creamy, packed with flavor, and my only complaint is there wasn’t enough of it, a common failing of the triangle shaped rangoon.
Sauce - I loved the sauce. It claims to be a ‘sweet and sour’ on their menu, but I would say it’s more of a chili sauce. It wasn’t overly sweet and complimented the rangoon filling well. It wasn’t spicy, but had a chili flavor that even the most delicate palate could enjoy. Very delicious and not a sauce I often see paired with crab rangoon.
Wrapper - The major failing of this rangoon was the wrapper. As you can see in the photos, they were left in the fryer a little too long and turned out darker than I tend to like them. It’s also the triangle shape which I think is the worst rangoon shape. It almost always results in more wonton than filling. Not oily or greasy though which I appreciate.
Value - At just a little over 1 dollar per rangoon, this is on the cheaper side for crab rangoon. I was impressed by the price, especially considering the restaurant is in the Short North.
Overall - This rangoon has some elements that could make it of one of the finest in the city. The filling is one of the best I’ve ever had, the sauce is unique and compliments it well. Where it loses this ‘best of’ status is the wonton. They were a bit overdone and the triangle shape made for more wonton than filling. Overall, I would get these again, but I would have hopes that they would be taken out of the fryer earlier.
