Move from "G Suite legacy free edition" to... ?

Help Needed

Hello degoogle community!

As specified here, G Suite legacy free edition won't be anymore free and Google will force users to upgrade to a subscription based plan.

I did this just to have the custom domain on the email. I use many google services but nothing that important that I can live without (I guess I can create a new google account for that.)

I guess I have 2 options: stay with G and pay $6 monthly or switch to another provider. But which one?

I reckon that what I need is just the email management with my custom domain. I mean, I like gmail, the UI and usability and I don't know if there are other services like gmail out there (which are free).

Another thing to say is that I have iCloud+ with storage, photo and documents. I know iCloud+ now allows custom domains. This could be an option.

Do you have any experience to share with me?

Thanks!

I’m in exactly the same boat: had Google “Workspace” since it was “Apps for your Domain” and need to switch my email, mainly. I’m currently moving my Drive documents to iCloud and considering that for email but there seem to be a fair amount of complaints on that front. One other option I’ve seen and looking into is MXRoute.

As melodramatic is it must sound to anyone else... is this all scaring you a bit? Like... actually? The idea of stopping using GMail and it's excellent features feels like the loss of a pet or something! Bouncing around currently (and unless they convert me to a non-business account) I'm thinking an email redirection service to get to a regular gmail account is the better option..?

Subbing to this thread because I'm in the same boat.

Anyone have experience with Fastmail or Zoho?

Fastmail is good. Can't think of anything bad except you can't schedule sent emails which I don't care about.

I have been heavily evaluating FastMail. I am pretty sure I will end up moving over there.

I'm a big Fastmail fan.
