Does Psilocybin break down in alcohol?
Thinking about trying to make tinctures with an alcohol extraction method. Does any know what might be the potential shelf life for it? Wouldnthe good stuff be broken down after a while? I'm considering this for microdose reasons, capsules seem to a lot of work for little pay off. If I can do an alcohol extraction, then evaporate most of it to concentrate it down, I would be able to put 2-3 drop in morning coffee or such. Thoughts?

The authors of the Psilocybin Chef Cookbook write about ethanol extraction (they discuss methanol extraction in their first book The Psilocybin Mushroom Bible and don’t recommend it)… “The downsides of this method are that the shelf life of the extract is relatively hard to predict when kept at room temperature, and even when kept in the fridge or freezer for longer periods of time.”
They also discuss simple spirit extraction but recommend that it be used immediately in their cocktail recipes. They say that the potency drops off fairly quickly with SSE.
EDIT: The other downside they list is the effort that goes into making it lol. Which seems like something you’re trying to avoid.
Was definitely going to use vodka or ever clear. Seems like I would have just ruined a batch. Where can I find that book? As far as the effort goes into the equation, extraction and evap seemed to be a "set and forget" scenario. If I have to sit down for a day and make a shit ton of capsules I'll do it.
