I ate my emptiness and now I'm full. (Possible TW: ED)

You are what you eat, they say

So I eat my sadness everyday.

I consume it with a delicate chew,

Day by day, I become more blue.

You are what you eat, they say

So I eat my shame everyday.

'Cause I'm ashamed to go out, and

Stuck with myself in my own head.

You are what you eat, they say

So I eat my emptiness away.

Day by day, it gets monstrous

No, wait! Was the right word ambitious?

You are what you eat, they say

So I stop eating, but not like that

It's like my hunger is the safest place

Away from my shame and sadness.

Edit: format. this was supposed to be in 4 quatrains, each starting with "you are what you eat, they say" but i think it can't be arranged on mobile
